Hello, lovelies. We assume that, since you’re here, you’re interested in learning a few things about the world of fat acceptance, fat positivity, and fat activism. (We also recognize that you may be here because one or both of us, rather zealously and possibly alarmingly, suggested you drop by, but we’ll go ahead and also assume that you’ve decided to stay.) As two invested members of the online world of fat positivity, we hope that we can help you in your quest for knowledge.

Before we get started, though, we want to make sure we’re all on the same page. Neither Sarah nor Becca represent The Fat Acceptance Movement®. We’re not experts, paid spokespeople, published authors, or respected scientific authorities. We don’t speak for everyone. We’re just a couple of fat girls who passionately feel that the status quo of beauty standards, body image, and body policing is pretty horrific, and we’re doing all we can to help educate ourselves and others on these issues, which are near and dear to our hearts. We’re also not perfect; we’re still learning, and we hope you’ll be patient with us if our commentary is ever lacking or insensitive. We have collected articles, blog posts, books, quotes, and art that are meaningful to us and that (we think) paint a good picture of fat acceptance/positivity. This doesn’t mean that we agree with every word in every link, but it does mean that we have found value in the discussions.

Fat acceptance/positivity is a hugely intersectional area of activism, and each fat person who participates brings something unique to the table. What we hope to present to you is a jumping-off point from which you can go on to discover more wonderously fat things for yourself. Please don’t stop here! There is a big fat world of big fat people with big fat hearts and minds; go find it! Keep clicking on links, checking out blogrolls, and finding new books – then be sure to let us know what you find.

We sincerely hope that this will help you learn a little bit about an important movement and possibly even inspire you to question a few of your own assumptions.
